St Joesph Pleine Lune 2018
St Joesph Pleine Lune 2018
Syrah
Bogy, Northern Rhone
Full bodied
Biodynamically farmed. Aromatic, sappy and juicy. Wild hedgerow fruits and pink peppercorns. Soft, supple and generous. Jean-Delobre was an outlier in the region until everyone realised he does things the right way for a reason.
Sulphur: less than 20mg/l added
Cuvée: Pleine Lune
Vintage: 2018
Producer: Ferme des Sept Lunes
Region: France, Northern Rhone, St Joseph, Bogy
Style + Colour: Still, Red
Grapes/Blend: Syrah
Winemaking: Destemmed, 3 week concrete vat vinification. Aged in a combination of 80% neutral demi-muids and 20% old barrels for 12 months, then 3-4 months assembled in tank before bottling unfined and unfiltered. "Pleine Lune" or "Full Moon" is made from vines on a south-facing plateau, which is among the warmest of the farm's holdings.
Sulphur: None added
The latest of three generations on the same farm, Jean converted to organic and biodynamic agriculture in 1997 and only uses sulphur in his wines when it's absolutely unavoidable. The vineyards in the upper part of St.Joseph have a south-eastern exposure, the altitude bringing freshness to the wines. The climate has been tending to Mediterranean in recent year, with wind coming from the north.
