NEW: Lori Haon - Domaine du Petit Oratoire
Valliguières, Southern Rhône, France
Lori is a young, talented winemaker who farms around 15 hectares on the Domaine du Petit Oratoire in Valliguières, not far from Avignon, since 2015.
We met him through our Wines Under the Bonnet colleague in France, Basile Gueret. Lori walked into Basile's shop to introduce his wines, and we got hooked.
The story: Lori was looking for a small vineyard to get into winemaking. He would be the first in his family to do so. His dad then found the 15ha estate on ebay for a very good price and decided to buy it for him, saying he could pay him back later. Lori wasn't expecting to take over 15ha right at the beginning but was happy rise to the challenge. With the help of Thierry Forestier he achieved really good results with his first vintage and it all went from there.
Lori is organically certified and practices biodynamic principles in the vineyard, which means he farms without the use of chemicals or synthetic products.
Lori farms the following varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Terret Noir, Black Picpoul, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Caladoc, Mourvèdre and Pinot Noir for the reds and Clairette rose, Grenache Blancs, Viognier, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Clairette for the whites.
We were lucky to get our hands on two of his wines, which are now available in our online shop: En Attendant les Copains - which means "waiting for friends", perfect to start off the evening...
